The fans have their say at Summer Sonic's Tokyo site
By DAVID HICKEY

Who's been the best act so far?
Riviera: So far we've only seen Kyon Kyon (Kyoko Koizumi), ET-King and Shonan no Kaze. We like reggae, so I think Shonan no Kaze were the best. (The three start singing Shonan no Kaze songs unprompted.)
Why are they so popular?
Riviera: They sing about peace and their lyrics are honest. It's upbeat music and perfect for summer.
Who are you going to see next?
Riviera: I'm looking forward to seeing Alicia (Keys) the most — and Coldplay.
What's the best thing about Summer Sonic?
Riviera: Drinking! What's my poison? Beer!
How does the vibe at Summer Sonic compare with other summer festivals?
Riviera: We're going to Reggae Sunsplash next week in Yokohama. You've got more freedom at Summer Sonic because there are lots of different stages and you can choose where you want to go.
You guys really do like reggae, don't you?
Riviera: Oh yeah! I wish Fire Ball was here, too. He breaks down the barriers between the artist and the audience.

Who was the best act at SS '08?
Kazuyoshi: Jesus and Mary Chain. I've been a fan for years, but this was the first time I'd had the chance to see them.
Mayo: I liked The Sex Pistols.
Miyuki: Yeah, they were good, too!
Is Summer Sonic your favorite rock festival?
Kazuyoshi: I like Fuji Rock the best, because it's in the open air. That said, Summer Sonic is good because you don't get wet when it rains and the stages are closer together so you can see lots of bands. Summer Sonic is a bit cheaper too, because it's nearer (to Tokyo) — you go back home each night and don't have to fork out for a hotel.
So what's the worst thing about Summer Sonic?
Kazuyoshi: Nothing! It's all good. I love the Beach Stage.
Miyuki: They only have Corona beer.
I wish they had Japanese beer.
Mayo: It's not awfully clean.
Which one band do you wish was here?
Miyuki: New Order
Kazuyoshi: The Smiths. Not Morrissey. The Smiths.
