THE SECOND ROOM PRESENTS
Psychedelic radar 11.18
Special to The Japan Times Online
Saturday, Nov. 19
Solstice Music presents "TIP World Tour 2005" at Zepp Tokyo in Odaiba. Psychedelic godfather Raja Ram (DJ set) will be joined by live acts Johann Bley, formerly of Juno Reactor, and Bio Tonic, plus DJs Lucas and Ryo (Tokyo party), or Takashi (Osaka party). The tour goes to Zepp Osaka on Nov. 26.
Tickets are 6,000 yen at the door. Starts at 10 p.m. Zepp Tokyo is located beneath the big Ferris wheel in between Tokyo Teleport (Rinkai Line) and Aomi (Yurikamome Line) stations. See the Web site ( www.solstice23.com) for details and other party dates on the tour.
Raja Ram, now 65, is enjoying one of his strongest years ever in Japan. Recalling his 26-minute encore at the final Shpongle party in May still makes my knees weak. Solstice Music Festival 2005 clearly belonged to Raja Ram. The timetable shows him starting at 4 a.m. -- I doubt that we will see daylight before 7.
Saturday, Nov. 26
Mother Records presents "X-Stream" at Club Citta in Kawasaki. Live acts X-Noize, Pop Stream and Logic Bomb. Mother resident Ta-Ka and Daijiro (Digital Block) provide the DJ sets. Advance tickets are 4,500 yen (or 5,500 yen at the door).
Mother's enthusiasm really shines through in its Web presence, creating a slick mini-site just for this event (www.mother.bz/X-STREAM.html) and posting nearly 100 photos from the S.O.S. party in August. Get ready for another fun time.
Mother Records will celebrate its 3rd anniversary on Dec. 17 at Differ Ariake. Check the Web site (www.mother.bz) for details TBA.
Saturday, Dec. 3
Vision Quest Tokyo presents "Wicked Vision" at Zepp Tokyo in Odaiba. Live acts S.U.N. Project, Dali and Delirious, plus DJ sets by Ami, Dali and Delirious. Starts at 10 p.m. Advanced tickets are 6,000 yen (or 7,000 yen at the door).
This event celebrates S.U.N. Project's powerful new album "Wicked" (released Oct. 27). The last time this German trio played at Zepp, about one-third of the crowd was up on somebody's shoulders screaming. Dali delivered a delightful double at Gathering, but her stage presence at Zepp is even better. Delirious was not at Gathering but several tracks from their album "Breakpoint" got some memorable play over three days.
The fourth edition of Vision Quest's popular DVD series "The Gathering" -- this year a double DVD -- will be released Dec. 22, just in time to stuff a stocking or two.
Saturday, Dec. 3
Sirius Records presents "Full Power -- "XP Voodoo Compilation Release Party" at Differ Ariake in Odaiba. Live acts 40% (Chemical Crew), Deedrah (Spun Records) and Z-Machine (Pukka Music), plus DJs XP Voodoo (Spun Records), Miki (Sirius Records) and Omi (40%/ Chemical Crew). Starts at 10 p.m. Advance tickets are 5,000 yen (or 6,000 yen at the door).
XP Voodoo strikes again with the December release of "Full Power Zenryoku," a compilation that looks every bit as powerful as his "Hi-Tech Pleasures" about a year ago. This will be the first performance in Japan for Z-Machine and the first Sirius party without Tokage's name on the flier.
Saturday, Dec. 10
Fineplay Music presents "Freedom Of Expression -- Perplex and Space Monkey Album Release Party" at Differ Ariake in Odaiba. Special live set by Perplex (Fineplay Music), plus Space Monkey (Agitato Records), Bizzare Contact (Com.Pact Records) and Dynamic (Phonokol Records). DJs Mairo-Such and Jun. Advance tickets are 4,500 yen, or 5,500 yen at the door.
All parties are in Tokyo unless otherwise noted. Send potential party pick info to email@example.com
