Friday, Nov. 9, 2007 SHORT TAKES
Aozora no RouletteBy MIZUHO AOKI
Director: Shinichi Nishitani Language: Japanese The message here is about the importance of friendships, love and dreams. This corny Japanese seishun-eiga (youth movie) follows a group of young men (Shun Shioya and others) who work as window cleaners while trying to fulfill their dreams to become professional musicians. One of them finds romance with a deaf girl (Shihori Kanjiya) who sheds tears when she hears the band's cheesy songs. Unless you are a big fan of Shioya or Kanjiya, saccharine scenes and lines will make you want to flee the theater. |
