A Good YearBy MIZUHO AOKI
Director: Ridley Scott
Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe, who worked together on "Gladiator" (2000), team up again in this light comedy based on a novel by the U.K. author Peter Mayle. Crowe plays Max, a workaholic London stockbroker, who goes to Provence in France to sell a vineyard that he inherited from his uncle. But in the sun-drenched countryside, as Max spends leisurely afternoons drinking wine and falling in love with a local woman, he starts to question his way of living. Provence's scenery is beautifully captured, but the comedy format is just not for Scott and Crowe — the slapstick looks clumsy, giving the film the taste of diluted wine. |
