Staff writer
Edward Burne-Jones (1833-1898) was the son of a frame-maker from Birmingham, England, and a student of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, the founder of the Pre-Raphaelite movement. Though known for his Pre-Raphaelite paintings, Burne-Jones' complete portfolio includes collaborations with textile designer William Morris, a lifelong friend with whom he, Rossetti and other artists formed a design company. His interior design contributions helped create the Arts and Crafts movement, and he developed a distinctive style of painting derived from his knowledge of both applied and pure art. This comprehensive show spanning Burne-Jones' career, is the first of its kind to be shown in Japan; till Aug. 19.
