KANTO"Railway Model Exhibition in Tokyo Tower"TOKYO TOWERBy TOMOHIRO OSAKI
Staff writer
With the famous Tokyo Tower as its venue, this exhibition showcases approximately 450 examples of railway trains, produced and carefully selected by modeler and rail fan Nobutaro Hara. What distinguishes Hara's work is his insistence on the use of authentic materials to produce incredibly detailed models. He uses iron for carriage bodies and reproduces the smallest of components, such as gears and brakes, using the same methods as their real-life counterparts. Even train interiors and patterned stained-glass windows are duplicated in meticulous miniature. So detailed and accurate are Hara's creations, visitors have come from overseas just to see his work; till May 6. Tokyo Tower; (03) 5159 5895; 4-2-8, Shiba Park, Minato-ku, Tokyo; Akabanebashi Station, Oedo Subway Line. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. ¥ 1,000. event.yomiuri.co.jp/train.
