Staff writer
Famous kabuki actors, sumo wrestlers and courtesans were the celebrities of Edo Period (1603-1867) Japan, and just as photographs, posters and other images help popularize today's film, TV and music personalities, ukiyo-e (woodblock prints) portraits of these Edo stars were coveted and passed around among fans.
This show of well-known faces includes depictions of popular characters from novels and offers a vibrant visual depiction of Edo Period culture; Feb. 1-26.
