This exhibition explores the artistic exchange between Japan and China during the mid-19th to mid-20th centuries, a time of modern Western cultural influence on Asia.

"Geese by Xu Beihong" KYOTO NATIONAL MUSEUM, SUMA COLLECTION

It includes works by the masters Wu Changshuo (1844-1927) and Qi Baishi (1864-1957), as well as others by leading Chinese artists who visited Japan. The paintings have been selected from various museum collections, including some from the Suma Collection of Chinese Paintings, which was owned by the former Japanese ambassador to Canada, Michiaki Suma and donated to the Kyoto National Museum by his wife in 2009; Jan. 7-Feb. 26.
