"Ben Shahn: Cross Media Artist/Photographs, Paintings and Graphic Arts"

This exhibition looks into the influence of cross-media artist Ben Shahn (1898-1969) on the development of Japanese art and design during the 20th century.
Shahn was born in Lithuania but emigrated to America when he was a boy. As a social-realist artist, he expressed an empathy toward to the ordinary people, which is reflected in this retrospective of his work.
Around 600 exhibits are on show, covering various media, including painting and graphic design. Shahn was also a talented photographer and during his 1960 visit to Japan he took more than 300 photographs, many of which are featured in this show; from Dec. 3 till Jan. 29.
