"The Face Is The Universe"
By JAE LEE
Taro Okamoto's avant-garde works have recently received a lot of attention. There have been a number of exhibitions celebrating the centenary of the artist's birth, and just after the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake, his famous mural "Myth of Tomorrow," displayed at Shibuya Station, received an addition of the damaged Fukushima nuclear plant, courtesy of artists Chim↑Pom.
This exhibition focuses on the human face in Okamoto's works. "Myth of Fertility," an accompanying work to "Myth of Tomorrow," and "Thunder Man" are both on show, along with other paintings, objects and a self portrait. Parco Factory has also produced a variety of Okamoto souvenirs, including T-shirts, stationery and miniature replicas of works, which are available at the exhibition; till June 20.
