We know it is very important that students have high Japanese language ability when they try to find a job. But, in our school, we don't teach only Japanese language but also focus on learning manners, courtesy and customs of Japan through our school life with various kinds of events. Because it is necessary to learn cultural backgrounds when they comunicate with Japanese staff in a Japanese company. We believe that students will be able to get the most suitable job after they learn the real communication ability which is based on total understanding of Japanese culture.

We support students who are career-changers, wish to improve skills and entrepreneurs. The Japanese ability they require varies from icebreaking to advanced level. Business-level Japanese or "sophisticated Japanese" does not mean passing N1(JLPT) but ability to use appropriate Japanese in a certain situation and ability to keep a conversation going naturally. One key is "cushion kotoba"(cushion phrase) that softens expressions. "Cushion kotoba" is simple, however, it is a little complicated to know how, when and to whom this expressions can be used. It is important to not only "understand"but also to "be able to use" naturally in real situations.

In recent years, an increasing number of exchange students who are studying Japanese not only plan to attend a Japanese college or vocational school after graduating but also wish to find employment in a Japanese company. Of course in this case, Japanese language skills are required, but now more than ever, I believe it’s necessary for students to understand Japanese culture, customs and ways of thinking. For this reason, I believe that by using Japanese in a Japanese environment, experiencing working at a part-time job in Japan, and experiencing the strictness of Japanese culture will be quite beneficial to students.

Most of the JLI students have bachelor's or higher degrees. Some seek jobs in Japan after achieving a certain level of Japanese proficiency. Here are some tidbits for finding decent employment in Japan. First, attain a working knowledge of business Japanese (i.e., N1 or N2 in JLPT) to have basic familiarity with Japanese business manners. Then, contact foreign chambers of commerce in Japan, enlist the help of headhunting agencies, and check the job opportunities section of your target companies' homepages. Most important of all: Be ambitious, aggressive, patient, tenacious and resourceful. Job search is a full-time job, requiring full engagement.
