Message to young people
I want the young people to cherish these four words: “enthusiasm,” “study,” “confidence” and “cooperation.” It is important to become enthusiastic about work. Through work, you will find a goal. And cooperation with people around you is most important. You will solve any problem and achieve success in cooperation with other people.

When I was little, I could do many things easily and people said I was excellent. My family was less-than-wealthy and life was hard with scant provisions. When war meant my school was relocated to the highland mountains, I had to study in a hole dug up from the earth. Since I was good at math and science, I majored in physical chemistry in college.

After I graduated, I taught at Hanoi University of Technology. Then I went to Germany to complete a doctorate in engineering and science. After I returned to Vietnam in 1980, I taught physics at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology for 16 years. From 1996 to 2000, I worked as a manager fostering human resources at Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.

With the investment of 10 colleagues, I established Saigon Technology University. In the beginning, we struggled with a shortage of funds and staff. Now, we have grown as a university with 300 professors. They are all capable and about 60 percent of them have completed a master’s degree or doctorate.

I aim to increase the number of students. Setting out to be a high-quality university, we are going to establish various majors such as management, design and art and culture. Also, with technology as the central focus, we want to develop as an international-standard university. Our goal is to become one of the top 10 universities in Southeast Asia by 2030.
