Message to young people
I believe the most important thing in life is to enjoy it and to discover new things. Life is very interesting. If you enjoy it then things will go well with work. Although I started with a boring job, my life is completely different now. Please enjoy life to fullest. I believe you guys can.

I was born in Ireland and went to primary school in Singapore. Afterward, I returned to Ireland and continued my studies for another seven years. I was a boy full of mischief. Both my parents were doctors. My mother was an ophthalmologist and my father was a pediatrician. My father was always busy with work but he always made time to play with me.

When I started out as a lawyer in 1998, all of my cases had to do with the economic crisis that was happening in Asia. Every day I felt more and more depressed and I was not enjoying my job. After resigning as a lawyer, I had an opportunity to buy a hotel in Chinatown. And gradually I started to purchase other hotels and my hotel enterprise gradually started. During that time, Singapore was a very suitable place to begin hotel management. This is because there were either only first-class hotels or extremely cheap hotels. There were needs in middle-class, boutique-type hotels.

During 2008 to 2009, there was a serious economic crisis. I was trying to open three hotels at once and faced with several difficulties. In order to open the hotels properly, funds were required and every single thing had to be checked so there were would be no mistakes. Fortunately, the economic crisis calmed down in 2010 and the hotels changed steadily. It was a very tense time, but I believe we were saved because of the timing.

My goal is to continue to discover new things. Going to a new place, doing something and something new will be discovered. I always tell my staff, there is so much time, open your heart and discover something new and take advantage of it.
